Anthony Jackson, An Unsung Bass Hero!

I realized this morning that I had yet to post a blog on one of the true great bass players of our time, Anthony Jackson. This video is of Anthony playing with Jazz greats Michel Camile and Horacio Hernandez. Nobody has done more to bring Afro Cuban beats and melodies into main stream jazz.

My first exposure to Anthonys bass work was decades ago when he worked with Fusion great Al DiMeola. I always thought his melodic bass lines were the magic ingredient to Di meolas International sound.

Check out Anthonys unique right hand technique. Not how I would teach a beginner to approach right hand technique but man does it work for Mr. Jackson!

Bassista! A Great Lesson In Slap Bass

All of you regular visitors here know how I love to post videos of bass players from around the world [outside the U.S.]. Here is another one of my favs. Gianni Serino "The Bassista"

One of my pet peeves is the amount of players we see playing "Slap Bass" who really are just Slapping a bass. Few people really have a sense of musicality in their slap technique. Maybe we should call it "Beat Bass"! Seriously, check out the videos below and do your best to work through the language barrier. It is worth it.
